Lisa Ross Canadian Olympian Sailing for Gold in London 2012 http://www.lisaross.ca Training Begins in Perth G'day mate! I have made it all the way "down under" to the most remote city on earth, Perth, Australia, the host of the 2011 World Sailing Championships in December. I am here for just over 3 weeks of intensive training with a strong group of international training partners. We are all putting in long hours on the water and at the gym in preparation for the upcoming Worlds. http://www.lisaross.ca/blog.php?id=52 Summer Ends and Fall Training Begins Hi everyone! I am writing you from Buzzard's Bay, Massachusetts where we are having a National Team training camp. Seven days ago I arrived here after driving down with teammate Danielle Dube to start training with the other Canadians, Erin Rafuse, Brenda Bowskills, Claire Merry, Ingrid Merry, and Mexican Tania Calles. We came here for the windy, wavy conditions this bay is known for and last week we got what we came for. With Coach Larry Lemieux we put in 5 days of long 4 hours sessions, some in 20+ knots and big waves. It has been pretty epic down here. http://www.lisaross.ca/blog.php?id=51 Up and Down Racing in Weymouth Hello from good ol' Nova Scotia! I am happy to be home. For those who were watching the results this week for the Sail for Gold regatta, they know that it was a very "up and down" regatta for a lot of people, including me. My mistakes early on in the event came to haunt me in the end and I made some important realizations for moving forward to our Olympic trials in December. http://www.lisaross.ca/blog.php?id=50 Racing in Weymouth starts tomorrow! We have had a great few days getting used to the Olympic Venue here in Weymouth. This will be an important event for most sailors as many countries are using this event for selections for the Pre-Olympic regatta, the 2011 World Championships or the Olympics themselves. It has brought a palpable intensity to the boatpark which is quite exciting. http://www.lisaross.ca/blog.php?id=49 Breeze on in Holland Hello from Weymouth, the site of the 2012 Olympics! Since the Delta Lloyd Regatta, which wrapped up on Sunday, I have made my way to Weymouth England, the site for the 2012 Olympic competition and next week's Sail for Gold regatta. http://www.lisaross.ca/blog.php?id=48 Delta Lloyd Regatta.... Hello from Holland, I arrived in the Netherlands on Saturday morning and made my way to Medemblik just northeast of Amsterdam the venue for the Delta Lloyd Regatta, the 5th stop on the World Cup circuit. I am excited to be back in Europe and am ready to compete again after spending the past three weeks in Halifax. http://www.lisaross.ca/blog.php?id=47 Au Revoir France, Bonjour Nova Scotia The French World Cup is finishes up with the medal races this afternoon. It has been a tough week for me, racing through a bad chest cough. But I had some good moments and a lot of learning so it was worth the struggle. http://www.lisaross.ca/blog.php?id=46 French World Cup begins tomorrow! Bonjour! http://www.lisaross.ca/blog.php?id=45 Heading into the last day of Finals Today we finished our first day of Finals racing here in Palma. The 78 boat fleet is now split into Gold and Silver fleets after three days of qualifying racing. Palma has given us unusually sunny days for this time of year and with that, some very tricky conditions for our racing. The points in our fleet are very tight and lots of moving can still happen tomorrow. http://www.lisaross.ca/blog.php?id=44 Canadian Sailing Team's Podium Team! Red eye flights are great for getting you to your destination in one day, but likely you'll be exhausted by the time you get there! I am in Heathrow Airport on my way to Palma de Mallorca for the start of the European Spring World Cup season and looking forward to the possibility of more sleep on my next flight. In reflecting on the past month of training in Halifax, I am very pleased with the progress and preparation I will be taking forward into competitions over the next month. http://www.lisaross.ca/blog.php?id=43 3rd Place at Radial North Americans!!! The Women's Radial North American Championships ended on Sunday and I placed 3rd. We raced 8 races over the three day competition and the conditions were great. Mostly, we had light to medium breezes which made this regatta a good time to put to the test all the light air training we had over the past month. It all came down to the last race in determining who would place where in the top 5 and it was exciting. http://www.lisaross.ca/blog.php?id=42 3rd so far at Radial North Americans! Hello all! http://www.lisaross.ca/blog.php?id=41
